World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades provide players with the ability to upgrade their equipment that they already own. This can be done at any upgrader NPC.
Upgrades increase the main stat of an item upgrader mod, and can also add additional features based on the type of item upgrader kit. Examples include Whistan's shield for FB sorcs and Goldwrap for casting builds.
Armour
Armour is among the key things that keeps Link protected from damage in all situations. Although it isn't upgraded like weapons, you can still enhance its defense capabilities in different ways.
Armour is designed to protect animals or people from injury or harm regardless of whether it's a direct physical attack or from a variety of environmental or activity hazards. Historically, the majority of armour was made of fabrics or leather, however metal protections were also used, especially for military applications like heavy cavalry and combat drones.
As with weapons there are a myriad of ways that armor can be upgraded, but the majority of them require visiting one of the four Great Fairy Fountains located throughout Hyrule. Each fountain offers a different degree of improvement, with higher levels of protection that require more rupees and other materials.
The first thing to note about Armor Upgrades is they are permanent upgrades and once they've been applied they are not able to be replaced unless you own another piece of equipment with the same upgrade. It is essential to only apply the highest grade of upgrades to your gear and that you have enough of the materials needed to complete the process.
For those who want to acquire the upgrade components needed to upgrade your character, they are available in a variety of places around Hyrule including merchants, shrines, and even enemies. These are usually marked by a blue triangle or a gold circle and are found in huge numbers as you progress through. While they may appear randomly, there's the possibility that acquiring certain upgrade components will trigger an adventure that rewards you with more.
It's important to keep in mind that, even though the level that upgrades offer may differ, it will always be more than nothing. Weapons

Two NPCs can upgrade your weapon: Blacksmith Hewg, located in the Roundtable Hold hub zone and the Smithing Master Iji located in the Road to Manor hub zone. Both of these NPCs accept your Smithing Stones or Runes to upgrade your weapon.
Prioritize upgrading your most-used slot items first. Then upgrade those that you aren't likely to replace anytime soon. If you're planning to play in a melee-based build, for example, upgrade your weapon, then your shoulders and chest followed by your hands and feet. The same principles apply to Magic and Utility Items, with the caveat that some products may be superior to others depending on your playstyle. Armour is no different, with some refining better than others.
Magic Items
A character can only upgrade one magic item at a time. If an upgrade project is cancelled then any subsequent upgrades for the item will not start. Magic items that are upgraded cost double the amount of gold it would cost to create or buy, but they can also have extra benefits.
A magical item level upgrade is any item with special properties or effects. These are usually weapons, but they can also be shields, armors, cloaks and potions. They could also be rings, scrolls or other items. Some of these items may be converted into a sentient.
Most magic items can enhance their capabilities. This makes them more useful to players or aid them to overcome a difficult situation. Infused weapons can offer an additional amount of damage to a specific enemy type, for example. This is particularly beneficial for characters that have reached a level where they'll likely encounter the same type of monster in dungeons repeatedly.
An infused ring might confer the ability to resist piercing, bludgeoning or slashing injuries from non-magical attacks (not including silvered ones) until the next time the character is taking a long rest. This is especially beneficial for combatants who are melee or anyone who wishes to save the cost and hassle of purchasing shields.
Certain objects with enchanted properties have special abilities that allow the character to cast spells that are not in their class list. This is beneficial for characters who have trouble filling their spell slots due to multiclassing. These items that are enchanted typically require an Intelligence (Arcana) check prior to use, and the spell cast is determined by rolling on an index based on the number of Intelligence points expended.
Other objects with enchanted powers could allow the player's appearance to be changed, or they could even create a new appearance. These can be particularly useful for those who have had to leave their homes, or are in a location that they aren't welcomed. An enchanted item might provide them with an invisibility effect, or even make them invisible to everyone but a select few.
Utility Items
Utility items are any equipment that isn't part of the categories of Armor or Clothing and have a variety of capabilities. Contrary to Weapons and Armor they are not a single utility Item Upgrade that is able to be in conflict with another. The majority of utility items have a passive effect that the player can activate by using them but some also have additional capabilities that activate when the user presses an action button or activates a skill.
Generally speaking, the most popular type of utilitarian item is the Flashlight that is used to illuminate the surrounding area. Other items that are useful include the Helicopter Cap and Rocket Boots which allow the player float in mid-air while moving, and the Jetpack that allows the player to accelerate in any directions when on the ground. A variety of useful items can be immediately created in the Engineering section, while others are unlockable through research projects or experimental projects at the Proving Ground.
Players can unlock more powerful utility items in addition to the ones available in their regular inventory by purchasing them from the Atomic Shop or from seasonal Scoreboard rewards. Certain of these items are upgradeable for more effective use.
Most utility items enhance a specific combat attribute or give the player some sort of advantage in navigation. For instance, Sharpening stones crafted by the Weaponsmith increase Ferocity and Power, while Maintenance Oils crafted by the Huntsman boost the power of concentration and healing.
