World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade items increases the cost of the next item by a specified amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its base stats are increased in value. The value is the sum of all of its upgraded advantages (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrading items can be expensive depending on the upgrader and what type of upgrade you choose to perform. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.
It can also be used to enforce gating requirements when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves to determine a gating condition when waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to an lower level). The average item level can be found in the character sheet.
Utilizing the level of an item will allow players to compare the potency of gear when deciding to purchase or sell. It's an excellent indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it's able to deal. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when examining a vendor's inventory.
On PC, you can check the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full item description, including its ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.
There are a few theories about how the calculation of an item's level is done. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration that different perks are valued differently, and that gems found in sockets increase the item's value. This can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl, which is usually close to the actual Blizzard item level.
This is not the only factor that affects the level of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped may change its stats. For instance, it could add a level to the item's haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have a higher value.
Item Stats
Item stats can make or break an item for players. The game makes use of them in various ways to encourage players to not restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods that are in turn enhanced by the player's level.
Item upgrades add to that by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. For instance, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, while items with rare tiers will be upgraded several times with higher prices.
Another method to alter the stats on an item upgrading is to use affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The affixes are used to give items extra damage or other special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs) or to differentiate them by naming them.
All affixes are currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other rerolling options.
Players can upgrade an item to specific stats, or reroll attaches. The possible stat ranges for an item are based on the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within the range, unless it is a unique item or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or choose which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would need to be done on a per-item basis, and the interface for item comparison wouldn't show all possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the likelihood of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is especially advantageous in early game runs because players tend to put defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading, which increase with each new level of item. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, shields, and armor can be created or spawned with the Luck property, which has an initial value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to increase the value of 40 luck, or to increase the luck of the item to 140.
Moreover, certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon, can be equipped to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items are available at the store, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item if it is not successful.
When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to how much success rates can be increased and the probability of an upgrade failing cannot be greater than 100%..
The success of an can be affected by the luck of the item. All items have a success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.
The upgrade overlays of the item are rendered above the items in the inventory. This can cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
