The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention. It will leave your floors clean. Its affordable price and high-end functions (such as a dirt detector) are positives.
Make sure to check your robot's brushes frequently for tangled debris and hair. Wash them if needed. Some models can also automatically empty their onboard dustbin into a larger bin in the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They have top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobot models (including the top choice) they utilize smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans that avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature the feature of Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.
Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on different rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen before on other robotic autonomous vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes This mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. If you're willing to put up some more volume and a little more cost this is a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and drys the mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.
The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.
For larger homes, it's worth opting for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
