The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention, and will leave your floors clean. Its surprisingly affordable price and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are a plus.
Be sure to check your robot mop's brushes for tangled hair and large debris, and wash them when required. Certain models also automatically empty the onboard dust bin and place it in a larger bin located at the base. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust that gets released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have test. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the top model) they employ intelligent mapping to design precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with the feature of Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.
It's still a good value particularly if your office or home has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also extremely quiet and operates while you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with a wet one in minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic cleaner and mop hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.
This top-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could sweep the entire house, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on different rooms and floors with various flooring types including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competitors. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work, or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit costly but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient however it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the autonomous vacuum, refills the water tank, and cleans and dry mop pads.
The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the home based on how dirty these areas are.
If you have a larger home, you should consider choosing a model that has the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Additionally a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd imagine from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that is washable.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we've examined. It also has an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
