A Small Double Buggy That's Easy to Push One-Handed and Carry Up and Down Stairs
This is the double stroller you need in case you're looking for a lightweight one-hand stroller that is easy to push. It's also simple to carry up and down the stairs.
It has two fixed seats and offers up to 30 seating options (including triple!). Both seats feature UPF 50+ canopies and windows that peek out.
Size
The Joovy Kooper X2 double pram stroller (Full Review) stroller is a side by side double stroller. It can be used by two children weighing up to 50 lbs. Its seats are larger bigger than those of other double strollers that are lightweight and the canopy has spacious SPF 50 sunshades, with windows that are peekaboo. Other features that are important include a self-standing basket with the capacity of 25lbs, cup holders for one parent and bars that swing away to help children get into and out their seats. It's a great choice for suburban and urban families. It also comes with the double kit which includes a newborn wedgie for the best position to lie flat.
Weight
The weight of a double buggy is one of the main factors that determine its ease to push. A lighter buggy is easier to lift and transport, but might not have enough suspension to deal with bumps and uneven terrain.
The majority of double pushchairs buggies have a maximum weight per seat and some have overall frame maximums and it's important to check the details of each model prior to you purchase. Certain double buggies can be folded with seats removed, making them lighter and more compact. This is useful in cases where you have limited storage space.
Tri-fold doubles are generally the lightest models, as they only require a single hand to lift the top and lower sections. They are also narrower than side by side buggies and can be accessed through the majority of doorways. The iCandy Geo 3 tri-fold double push chair is one of most lightweight on the market. It can comfortably fit twins or a toddler baby.
Tandem buggies are great for families with growing children since they begin as a single stroller but can be adapted to include a second child, car seat or carrycot. Some, like the iCandy Orange offer over 30 different seating options, so they can adapt to your family, with a third child. They are heavier than tri-folds but because the weight is more evenly distributed, they are much easier to move around.
Folding
The best small double buggies fold up easily in a matter of minutes. This feature is appreciated by our Lab experts because they can fit the buggies into the back of their cars and conserve space when not being used. For instance, the Joovy Kooper X2 has straps on each seat that are able to be pulled up, and the whole thing folds down -- it's a trifold that even our oldest testers could do with one hand.
The lightweight Delta Children LX Side by Side is a good alternative for a compact double buggie. Its lightweight weight is a plus however, it also has some great features such as large pop-out canopies that have SPF 50 and peekaboo windows swing-away bars that help little ones climb in and out of the seats; and reclining seats and leg rests for smaller children.
Manoeuvrability
One of the most important aspects to think about when selecting a compact double buggy is its maneuverability, particularly how easy it is to get around with two children aboard. Some pushchairs are better than others in this regard, including the iCandy Orange's "cinema seat" (where the back is elevated).
This is where narrow tandem buggies and side-by-side designs come in useful. These buggies can be a bit larger and can be difficult to navigate through doors.
The UPPAbaby Vista 2 pushchair is a great example, as it's a narrow model that allows for two seats in addition to - most importantly - a pillion board that can accommodate a third kid.
Other models with three wheels like the phil&teds dot are extremely agile, particularly with its clever 'dot kit which transforms it into an inline buggie. It has different seating configurations for kids of different ages. It also allows the front seat to rotate to face parents for ultimate face-to-face bonding time. It has a large storage basket and is easy to fold. This is a great option for growing families.
Comfort
With compact tandem strollers or versatile buggies that can be used side-by-side, parents can watch both kids while at the grocery store, park or anywhere else. These lightweight doubles are able to accommodate two children up to 50 lbs each. They also come with a pop-out canopy that can be extended enough to give shade. They also come with convenient cup holders for the seatback that are reversible, as well as one cup holder for parents, plus a large underseat basket.
