1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have tested. They have top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top choice), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of an area.
It's still a good deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you want to save money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used when you're at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and offer more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot auto vacuum and mop/mop that could complete the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxes, this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work, or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and better-looking. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some extra cost this is a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot vacuum best uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.
The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the amount of dirt they tend to be.
For larger houses, it's worth opting for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home via the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have number of furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app also gives access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that thoroughly cleans a particular area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
