1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have examined. They are equipped with motors that are top-of-the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other top iRobot models (including the top pick) they utilize intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it clean quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in removing dog hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.
However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and can work when you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning robot mop and vacuum maps make it quick to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to offer cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.
It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted area, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could clean an entire home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of rooms and floors with various flooring types including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds and cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the rivals. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. This is a two-in-one automatic vacuum cleaner that is very efficient however, it's more expensive and create more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.
If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned using the app or voice command. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have lot furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very beneficial.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app also grants access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like adorable eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we have test. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
