1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They have top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. As with other premium iRobot models (including the top choice) they employ smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet in order to get it clean quickly.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.
However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also quiet and operates while you're at work or in school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensor technology that can stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted room, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean the entire house with the battery at 66 percent left. It also did a great job of cleaning a mix of rooms and floors with different flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums it, something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum that mops that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's also the only robot vacuums that mop vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and some additional cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.
For bigger homes it's worth looking for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home by using the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you have a lot furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very beneficial.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd expect from its price tag. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to organize an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute little eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
