Path of Exile Item Upgrading
Item upgrading allows players to improve their weapons and gear with new affixes, increasing its stats base or giving additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory and have access to the kiln.
Items with weak bases, such as rings, can be upgraded into more robust bases. Items with bases that are strong, such as eth Titans have little change in their stats.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armors, trinkets, and gathering tools. They can be used as an attribute bonus or additional effect, when the equipment is in use. They can be purchased from vendors, found as loot by enemies, or gotten from missions and chests. Certain upgrades come with additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require the equipment to be above a certain level before they are upgraded.
To upgrade a weapon, armor or other item in the game, the player will have to select it and then click the Upgrade button on the toolbar. This will show a preview on the right side of the screen showing what the expected upgrade statistics will be as well as the necessary component or material needed for the upgrade to take place.
There are three types of upgrade components that are universal upgrades, prefix upgrades and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, which are made up of gems, are able to be used in any type of equipment and provide smaller bonuses than upgrade components that are type-restricted. Infusions are jewels that can only be used in legendary and ascended equipment. They provide the same bonuses as jewels, however they cannot be used in other equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They will add the suffix at the end of the names of items. For instance the addition of the suffix Glyph would make the staff wrapping of Minor Vigor a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.
In the instance of upgrades for gathering tools If a player replaces one glyph with another the old glyph will be returned to the inventory. If you replace any other upgrade component the item will be destroyed, with the exception for the inscriptions that can be swapped freely.
Leveling
The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important changes from earlier versions. Gear is now broken down into tracks, and items can only be upgraded a specific number of times before they are "leveled out." The cost of upgrading increases with each level however the materials required aren't as high. This allows players to concentrate their efforts on a few items and maximize the impact of those items rather than spreading the cost of upgrades across several pieces.
If an item is leveled out in this way, it is able to receive a new set of upgrade components, and an increase in the likelihood that the upgrade will succeed. This bonus is referred to as the Artisan's Energy, and it resets to 0 on failure or increases when the upgrade succeeds.
When a piece is upgraded to the maximum level, it will be able to receive the affixes needed to enhance its abilities. The number of affixes that are available will depend on the item's base type. For example, an uncommon or unique weapon with a standard base will have only two affixes, while a legend armor will have eight affixes.
Each upgrade will require an amount of Flightstones and crests to complete depending on the current level of the item and the item slot it's in. Weapons will typically require more Flightstones than other equipment.
If an item upgrader kit does not reach its maximum level, the NPC grants the player the choice to transfer it to another character and then re-infuse it with a different set of upgrades. This process takes up to two hours and costs the same amount of materials however it will have less chance of success.
Engineers will utilize a level to compare the height of the building with an established location, such as a benchmark. This is referred to as a "level-loop." It involves taking readings with the level, backsighting rod and then turning the level to take the foresighting rod reading. This method makes sure that buildings are built to a high level of accuracy and safety.
Rerolling
Rerolling refers to the process of changing the upgrade components of an item upgrading. It is a vital aspect of the game and can dramatically improve an item's strength and damage as well as other characteristics. This can be accomplished through the menu for items or by pressing the Reroll button of an upgraded item. Rerolling an item can be costly and should be done sparingly.
Reroll tokens are obtained by recycling upgraded items. These tokens are then used to upgrade the original item or an similar item. Recyclable items have an indicator that indicates the amount of upgrade. The cost and rarity of upgrading an item determines the amount of level that has been filled.
In the past, certain upgrade items were affixed with priority that made them easier to roll for than other. This meant that you'd receive the most crucial stats to your build more often than other items. These included things such as the armor's total armor, thorns and control impaired duration reduction stats or the weapon's bonus attack speed and critical strike chance.
This was changed in the latest patch. Priority affixes have been removed and all upgrades will have the same odds of rolling for all stats. This can be good or bad, based on what you're looking to get from your equipment.
Each upgraded item can also have a unique bonus that increases the item's power by a fixed percentage or flat value. These bonuses are added to normal affixes. The more you improve an item, the higher the chance of receiving the bonus of your choice.
The game also comes with various sets which grant a set bonus when three or more upgraded items from the same set are equipped on a unit. This is a great method to give a character a lot more power without spending a ton of money.
Many players prefer to reroll their gear and weapons, especially in the early stages of the game. Rerolling is a method to create a more powerful character quicker, which enables players to advance in the game and achieve higher tiers.
Sets
Sets are collections that can be set up in different ways. They can have various sizes, contain no elements at all, or contain just one element. They can be used for organizing data or sorting information. They can also be used to analyze patterns. Sets can be classified in a variety of ways, including by size and shape.
The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom offers an array of set items that can be upgraded. Some are worth upgrading, while others are not. Upgrades are worth it for armor sets that offer high defense value and set bonuses. However, upgrades to weapons typically don't improve the item's stats much in comparison to their purple counterparts. This makes them less appealing to upgrade if your collection of weapons and armor pieces is already large.
Set items can be upgraded to include special procs that are useful for certain builds. This is evident in Aldur's Advance Boots and Guillaume's Face. Both were upgraded to Extraordinary Winged Helms and Exceptional Mirrored Boots, respectively. This increased their defense from 217 to 321. (Strength requirements and Level requirements were also increased).
Another reason to upgrade certain items is to bring them up to parity with their counterparts in their tiers. The Immortal King Set, for instance, comes with a wide range of levels ranging from 29 to 75. Upgrades to lower level items can increase their defense and make them more competitive in terms of damage.
Clicking the Upgrade button will show the item's attributes and the necessary items needed to upgrade it. This will display the item's characteristics, as well as the necessary items required to upgrade it. For instance the No-mouth face will require 1.1K Scrap Materials as well as 250 Enchanted Dust, and 5 Glowing Shards to upgrade. Players can also go to the Leaderboard or Golden vendor in Cyrodiil to find out the upgrade requirements of specific items.
In general, armor and weapons are more valuable when fully updated. Upgrades to gold are recommended for weapons that have spell/weapon-damage glyphs. This will result in a significant increase in their stats. Armor that has an upgraded appearance will also benefit from this, since its defense value will increase as it goes from purple to gold.
